Since 2022 The Yellow Cottage Kitchen and Miami Is Kind Foundation are collaborating. Doreen Ravenscroft, President of Cultural Arts of Waco found Miami Is Kind Program online and she was very inspired by Miami Is Kind mission and execution of the Bakery Program selling macaroons and cookies to employ young adults with autism. Doreen immediately contacted Silvia Planas Prats, President of Miami Is Kind Foundation who had recently moved to San Diego, CA. Silvia explained how her bakery program in Miami was on hold and she was looking for someone to continue her mission so dear to her heart as her son Marc has Autism. It seemed like the perfect match! The Yellow Cottage Kitchen acquired Miami Is Kind assets for her own project with the mission of “creating a future of employment and respect for persons with neuro diversities for Waco, Texas ”
Months later Silvia shared Miami Is Kind journey to the parents of the future employees of The Yellow Cottage Kitchen and everyone was very inspired by the promise of future opportunity The Yellow Cottage Kitchen would offer to their community.
Silvia Planas Prats and Doreen Ravenscroft have since then been great partners as their foundations share the most important: their core values.
Silvia is very impressed by the project that The Yellow Cottage Kitchen lead by Doreen is working on. They have plans in place to build their commercial kitchen and they already own the land to make it happen! The project will take some time, because it depends on all the city approvals to get to K groundbreaking point. Doreen’s team is pushing to have the Kitchen, which will include a gluten free Kitchen, up and running by the end of 2026. In the meantime, under Texas Cottage Law Doreen has started baking small batches manually with students from the Arc of McLennan County that are being educated on baking, very similar to what Miami Is Kind did in its origins in 2015. Our joint project is that The Yellow Cottage Kitchen will become the proud kitchen that will bake Miami Is Kind macaroons that will be shipped pre packed to Miami. This will give Miami Is Kind Foundation the opportunity to launch a new employment program aimed at employing young adults with on the autism spectrum in roles such as sales force, marketing force, packing, and shipping. Together, we can continue to grow, and empower adults living with neuro disabilities.
